Here, I would like to introduce a book that everyone should read.

"Selflessness and Selflessness: Learning from the Zen Way of Thinking" Eugen Herrigel (Author), Masahiko Fujiwara (Supervision, Supervisor), Yoshiko Fujiwara (Translation)

A book with the same original as "Archery and Zen" that Steve Jobs loved to read, but with a different translator.

It depicts the training of the original author, Eugen Herrigel, and Eugen's bow master, Yusei Awa Kenzo Shihan. It depicts the encounter with the teacher, the process of following the teacher's teachings despite various doubts and conflicts, and finally being recognized by the teacher. From this, it seems that Awa Kenzo Shihan's very noble approach to kyudo comes to the fore. And that approach is Zen. I think that my shocking encounter with this book brought about a big change in my Aikido.

It may be difficult to understand because there is a commentary part of Eugen himself in the middle, but you can get it even if you read only the exchange of conversation between Mr. Kenzo Awa and Mr. Eugen, and the part describing the behavior and attitude of Kenzo Awa. I think there is.

There are Japanese translations such as "Archery and Zen" and "Japanese Archery (Mr. Eugen's lecture)", so you can choose a book that suits you.

"Training Thought" Naoshi Nishihira (Author)
I have a special feeling for this book, so I was hesitant to introduce it here, but I will introduce it.
What I have personally experienced and realized in Aikido, which I have been guided by my teacher, is the meaning of Kata, Shuhari, improvisation and creativity, quiet mind and body, Mushin, and Zen.・In my heart, I thought, "I don't think there will be anyone who will sympathize even if I tell this to someone." I don't think there is any other book that I have written.
It can be said that this book is my go-to book along with the previous book, "Selflessness and selflessness".

"Budo Secret Book" Yutaka Yoshida (ed.)
"Heritage Family Densho" (Munenori Yagyu), "Fudo Chi Shinmyo Roku" (Takuan),
"Mr. Ittosai Sword Law" (Yahei Kotoda), "Book of Five Rings" (Musashi Miyamoto),
"Tengu's Swordsmanship" (Seizan Matsuura), "Tengu Art Theory" (Yamako Issai)
Excerpts are written in the original text, modern language, and commentary.
For me, this calligraphy inspired me to approach Aikido from a Zen perspective.

The Life and Heart of Ryokan by Ichihisa Matsumoto (Author)
The land of Tamashima, where I usually take care of my practice, is a place related to Mr. Ryokan.
This time, by some strange coincidence, I visited Entsu-ji Temple, where a young Ryokan trained with a person from Estonia who came to Kurashiki Aikido Kai. Twenty-five years ago, this person stayed at Entsuji for a week and experienced meditation. It seems that he could not forget the encounter with the chief priest at that time and the experience, and he visited Entsuji again. While witnessing the reopening with him and the chief priest, I thought of a once-in-a-lifetime chance.
A week later, I had the opportunity to visit Entsuji again with my teacher. I heard that Mr. Ryokan was an opportunity for him to encounter Zen.
Because of this connection, I purchased this book in order to study Ryokan in advance, but the more I read it, the more I became fascinated by Ryokan's humanity. You can enjoy Ryokan's foolishly straight, honest, and pure way of life, along with a variety of photographs and materials. (October 2019)

"The Book of Five Rings" and "35 Articles of Warfare" Musashi Miyamoto (Author)
The Scroll of Five Rings is difficult to obtain. The Book of Five Rings is also included in the martial arts secret book.
Unfortunately, the 35 articles of martial arts are not listed.
There are many books about the Book of Five Rings.
Among them,
・No biased paraphrasing or commentary by the author (things that are not business or way of life)
・Those with 35 articles of martial arts
is recommended.
35 Articles of Military Law'Knowing' is especially important to me.

"Sound and Connection - The Aikido I Want -" Seishiro Endo (Author)
Master's book.
You will be able to understand and learn more about the master's training and thought.
The Japanese text is followed by an English translation. Kiichi Hogen's "Toranomaki" also has an English translation, which is also valuable in that regard.

"A Look at Children" Child Psychiatrist Masami Sasaki (Author)
It doesn't seem to be directly related to Aikido, but for me, as a parent and as a human being, I feel that this book had a great influence on how I should face others. Parents who are worried about raising children will be saved by the words of this book.
I am impressed by your way of thinking that you can be saved and feel better in terms of how you deal with people, not to mention parents who are raising children.
Give what the child (person) wants as much as they want = overprotection = good
Trying to give even though the child (person) doesn't want it = over-interference = bad
And so on, it is a book of memories that deeply convinced me that "I see, it's okay to be overprotective, let's be careful not to interfere."
Totto-chan at the Window by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi (Author)
Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, commonly known as "Totto-chan," is a first-year elementary school student who attends Tomoe Gakuen, which was founded by the principal, Sosaku Kobayashi.
The warm true story of Principal Kobayashi and Totto-chan will heal your heart.
I myself wanted to go to such a school, and I would like to send my child to such a school.
I think it would be great if there were more schools like this in Japan.
Tomoe Gakuen did not have a splendid gate, school flag, school song, or school rules.
It seems that Principal Kobayashi always told the students only "gentleman (lady) sauce".
(Other than this, there are Totto-chan series such as "Totto's Missing Book". Especially, Missing Book is so much fun that you can't help but burst out laughing at Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's destructive power!)
"Demon's Crown" and "Golden Pegasus" by Yo Tsumoto (Author)
I dare to introduce it as a set.
"Demon's Crown" is the story of Sokaku Takeda, the founder of Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu.
"Golden Tenma" is the story of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido.
In "Oni no Kamata", Takeda Sokaku's training period is depicted, and it is interesting to read about the etiquette of the warrior training journey at that time. The young Sokaku, brave and uncompromising, is depicted in a very cool way.
Next, "Golden Tenma" depicts the process of young Morihei's enlightenment in Aikido, as well as his relationship with his teacher Sokaku. When O-sensei (Morihei) is teaching Aikido to his students, O-sensei (Morihei) suddenly visits Sokaku-sensei. I was impressed by the scene where O-sensei took care of everything as Sokaku-sensei's disciple, instead of letting his own disciple do it. How should a master-student relationship be? When. However, Sokaku, who was so cool in "Oni no Kamata", is here... I'm looking forward to reading the rest.
We recommend reading these two books as a set in order to enjoy learning about the path leading up to the birth of Aikido while mixing in fiction.

Hidden Sword Kitsune Kagesho and Hidden Sword Autumn Wind Shohei Fujisawa (Author)
This is the hidden sword series by Shuhei Fujisawa, which is familiar in movies. It has become a short edition.
You can simulate the thrill of a life-threatening serious match.

Game and Art: My Way of Go by Hideyuki Fujisawa (Author)
The other day, my teacher told me about the book I'm reading right now: the book by Go master Hideyuki Fujisawa.
This is a book that I bought and read immediately because I was curious about the one character of the title "art".
And I was just amazed and impressed.
However, it seems that drinking, hitting, and relationships with women should never be imitated.
(According to Mr. Hideyuki, even that seems to be for the sake of art...)
・Feel the beauty of looking at a masterpiece rather than memorizing the joseki (martial arts pattern) of Go.
・An art that is more important than competition, a new move that breaks the rules (just like a free move)
・Mind to hone art
(The rest is fun to read)
This is a great book that gives many suggestions to those of us who aspire to Aikido.
